Terre des hommes distributed food to more than 4.000 needy families in Kabul and Rustaq, northern Afghanistan
The Foundation of Terre des hommes has recently completed winter relief projects for street children in Kabul, and for children in Rustaq, northern Afghanistan.

The winter relief project in Kabul has been planned to help 2.089 vulnerable children and their families in Kabul city to survive the winter and to provide most needed supplementary food items. The supplementary food included rice, oil, sugar and chickpeas. Moreover, a non-food distribution was realized, and blankets, shoes and sweaters were provided to the most vulnerable ones who have no clothes warm enough for the harsh winter. Terre des hommes and its local partner Aschiana distributed 95.136 kg of rice, 19.034 kg of chickpeas, 27.190 kg edible oil, 1.510 kg salt, 27.190 kg sugar and 43.995 litres of kerosene. Also 1.684 hygiene kits and non-food items including blankets, sweaters and shoes have been distributed. . The funds of this project have been allocated from terre des hommes-Germany and the Swiss Solidarity Chain.

The winter relief project in Rustaq has been planned to help 2.028 vulnerable children and their families in 15 villages in Rustaq district as well as in Rustaq town to survive the winter and to provide most needed supplementary food items. The supplementary food included rice, oil, sugar and chickpeas. The funds of this project have been allocated from the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs and terre des hommes-Germany, and the project has been exclusively implemented by the Swiss Foundation of Terre des hommes (Tdh). The project lasted two months, from 5th of December until 4th of February, having distributed 76.457 kg of rice, 48.000 kg of chickpeas, 21.250 kg edible oil, and 3.000 kg sugar to 2.028 beneficiaries.

The Winter Relief Project in Rustaq as well as in Kabul was a timely response to the suffering of a starving population. With additional provision of health services and medicines the project managed to give a complete ‚Äúpackage‚Ä
